Scottish tosspots Union Of Knives have released an album about gangster ornithologists and it's quite good. Here is a clip of them playing 'I Decline' in my (and Totally Frank's) local trendy-arsehole venue 93 Feet East.

OMGZZZ. Cansei De Ser Sexy are the most awesome Brazilian girl beats-n-sex group ever! I'm in love. Their album came out today on Sub Pop in America EDIT: it's in the shops in the UK too, woop! PLUS! I have it on good authority that they might be playing ACTH later in the year, and will feature on celebrity-foot-wank site Popstar Feets sometime this week. Raaaaah

More than Hedi Slimane and Daft Punk..

Adam Kesher are French, they've worked with someone who had previously produced Elliott Smith, Dandy Warhols and Poison, and they make the sort of noisy stuff that tingles your thingies. If you're subscribed to my podcast then you should be receiving a little nugget of Kesher goodness about... now. Lies & Secrets
March 13, 2006
Everybody's favourite Anglo-Franco sexpot Jeremy Warmsley has a new EP out on the 10th of April and video for lead track 'Dirty Blue Jeans' has finally appeared online, and those of you unfamiliar with Jeremy's videos are in for a real treat. Rebuffing performance nonsense, his videos have an almost cinematic quality that frames his music and gives it another dimension - his songs seem different after you've seen the video for them – and 'Dirty Blue Jeans' is no exception. Completely still characters get more and more animated until they seem almost in a frenzy, despite not actually moving throughout the video. Watch it.

Kill The Animal Collective
January 06, 2006
Neon superheroes Tiger Force have got a mental new video for 'Kill The Wonder Boy' in which their every move - not to mention their appearance - is controlled by two Japanese child scientists with a God-complex and a penchant for twiddling.
They were kind enough to send me the video on one of those new-fangled vd disks (as my gran calls them), and now I'm giving it to you here, cool huh?
(Please right click and save-as)
Tiger Force - Kill The Wonder Boy - a big bad 37MB mpg file...
-or-
Tiger Force - Kill The Wonder Boy - a worse quality 13MB divx avi file...
'Kill the Wonder Boy' is taken from their split 10" single with Silent Front which I've been banging on about for the past month or so. It got single of the week in Pure Groove so I'd recommend that you buy it there, like, now. There are only 100 copies IN THE ENTIRE WORLD; so, as I said, now!

Total losers
November 09, 2005
This conversation originally started between Shoe Girl, my little brother (via txt) and myself at the McFly concert I went to at Wembley a while back. They played the Son Of Dork video on the big screen before McFly came on (oh, the volume of the screams still haunts me) and it was immediately obvious that it was a blatant rip-off of the New Found Glory video for 'Dressed To Kill'. So blatant in fact, that James is actually wearing a NFG t-shirt in this 'remake'. Anyway, I think we should let bygones be bygones because Son Of Dork will probably turn out to be pretty awesome (although my opinions on this particular song aren't exactly constructive).

Ooh, zombies scenesters in Testies new vid...
September 28, 2005
An opportunity to attend the video shoot was spurned by shoe girl and myself a couple of weeks ago in favour of a keeping our jobs (or not using a holiday day, whichever way you look at it), but after seeing the video I'm so disappointed. The single's out on the 24th of October kids, don't miss out!

Not quite Nadia Comaneci, but almost as supple...
September 26, 2005
Comanechi are a band, a very special band. Not only have I been in love with them, and talking about them on here, for a long time but they - and more specifically their song 'My Favourite Shoes' - were the inspiration for shoe girl's blog Popstar Feets.
Their second single came out a couple of weeks ago on White Heat records, and their video has just become available online too! Watch it.

The Rakes new single, and my favourite song they've ever done ever. It's about hangovers and drinking and stuff, i love it.
Watch the video, it looks like it was done by the same bird who did those first two Libertines videos, split-screenadelic.

Pain and Stretch Marks
April 21, 2005
I'm still procrastinating from writing my Help She Can't Swim / Battle review from Tuesday night, so this is just a quick one inspired by a video I found on Music For Robots a couple of days ago.
Anything regarding Mr T is always something to write home about, but this really takes the biscuit - the song Treat Your Mother Right is quality all the way through - but especially so as up until seeing this video I'd thought the song was a Put Down That Science Pole original, but I like it much better this way.

Be Your Own PET.. plus The Rakes Vid!
March 29, 2005
Last Thursday a group of my friends and I (collectively known as ‘the gang’) went down to Infinity to see Be Your Own PET, Test-Icicles and Semi-Finalists. Most of you Britishy-type people will already know that last Thursday was the last day before the excellent religious-plus-skiving public holiday known as Easter bank holiday weekend; and being relatively new to full-time employment I was eex-sigh-teed about the prospect of getting drunk on a Thursday night without worrying of the consequences.
After the obligatory queue debacle we slid into the venue only to find that Semi-Finalists were towards the end of their set. So, rather than start to form opinions on half-cooked evidence we headed to the bar and got completely blotto.
Anyway, the real anticipation was for the final two acts – I wanted complete and utter freaking out from Test-icicles (like, can you even have hardcore funk?), and I wanted Be Your Own PET not to be an absolute mess ‘in the live setting’.
The last time I had seen Test-Icicles they only played three songs because they were the only ones they had figured out how to play live, but despite that they absolutely blew me away. Beforehand that gig I had suspected that I would leave sore-eared and disappointed but nothing was further from the truth – they were thrilling – bounding across the stage whilst belting out perfectly timed rock riffs, punk-funk rhythms and hardcore screaming.
At Infinity I had expected exactly the same, but with more songs! Sadly two songs into the set the Dev’s keyboard playing became erratic and then he collapsed onto the floor. The drum machine was quickly switched off, and help was called to the stage. To find out what happened and for the more squeamish amongst you - click here - and for the incredibly hardcore-gore-philes amongst you - click here - ooh, that’s nasty.
Next (and now being watched through an alcohol-induced haze) were Be Your Own PET – officially the most hyped band in the entire world NME this week! A lot has been said previously about their: energy, youth, beauty, catchy songs and hair – all of which turned out to be true; but the real reason for the hype was obviously the singer, Jemina. She’s young (17 or 18 I think), pretty, blonde, skinny and has the sort of stage presence Juliette Lewis would kill for. I was transfixed for the entire gig (much to the delight of my girlfriend I can assure you), and you can bet your bottom dollar that any other heterosexual male writers would have been to. It all pointed towards something great for the future - as if you’d seen Wayne Rooney play in the Everton Reserves in 2001 – this could be like watching Debbie Harry in a pub in Rotherham before Blondie were signed. Jumping on this bandwagon, suddenly seemed like a good idea, and I would suspect that many others are thinking this too. “I liked The Audience BEFORE they changed their name to Sophie Ellis Bextor!”

Finally, another outing for the much-maligned Swish Video Player if you’re using Macs or Firefox I’m not sure if it works, try it in IE. Anyway, it’s not even my code – I stole it!! Ha ha ha!

john peel died
October 26, 2004
So the very sad news of the day is that john peel, one of my greatest idols, and a huge influence on the majority of the music industry for the most part of his life, has died. He was truly a great man, and I simply can’t imagine a British musical climate without his influence; the hole he has left will lie unfilled for some time.
Ok dudes I’ve been playing about with shit today cos I was well bored at work after 3 ‘o clock and found it very hard to focus on anything except making a music player. I wanted to show everyone the new dizzee rascal video for "…how u gonna havva dreem come truuuuee…?" because it is hilarious (and a great song – no denying it, you captain sensible hating freaks). however I couldn’t get real media to work in my player, so had to find another video to put in my beautiful new video-player.
so if you want to watch the dizzee video go here to watch it (via NME). and if you want to watch the video for the original mix of yesterdays posted track ‘romantic right’ by DFA 1979 click below.
watch ‘romantic rights by Death from above 1979 in my new swishblog videoplayer
Tonight swish-girl is making me go and see the others and the paddingtons. Duh.

you're looking fierce
August 27, 2004
I’ve just found a page on one of my old webpages which kinda shocked me. I’ve been used to telling people that my old band kjell have had 9 albums and loads of songs, but it wasn’t until I looked at our back catalogue in full that I realised 114 songs is actually QUITE A LOT!Go here to view the tracklistings of every Kjell album (many of which are now sadly lost forever) courtesy of Chad.
Ooh – 28 costumes are playing in London!
--Thursday 2 September 2004 --
THE NOISETTES + RATATAT + 28 COSTUMES
@ THE METRO, London
8pm until 3am, £6 / £5 with flyer
Searching for Nadia Ksaiba stuff on the web found this funny woman writing about the funny east berlin electro scene.
razorlight are playing nme's rock and roll riot tour. good job it's not called the new rock revolution tour or we'd have to start calling good old johnny a hypocrite.
A couple of weeks ago mrs. swish declared an interest to go to ‘the cock’ – I managed to shy her away from the idea telling stories about a disgustingly dirty dancefloor and poor sound quality. Now there’s no need with Fierce Girl blowing up all over the country – they look likely to become the gay Mike Skinner thingywotsit.
The vid for their [somewhat repetitive] single ‘double drop’ is here.
there is a really really funny moment in it, about halfway through - it flys in the face of the whole hard council estate gayboy look they’ve got going and kinda proves the VERy VERY CAMP gayboy theory – one of the boys jumps to head a footy that his mate has passed to him, and not only completely misses the ball, but also leaps like a jumping bean with his hands at his side – you have to see it I suppose.

the dead 60s
August 03, 2004
Yeah ok, i am occasionally hypocritical when it comes to music opinion - but i have a lot of opinions and it's fucking hard not to contradict yourself once in a while.continuing on this theme i would like to proclaim my love for 'The Dead 60s' a (kinda) ska band from Liverpool, signed to Deltasonic and not very cosmicmerseyshroomadelic; i have never said I hate ska music but there is a distinct possibility that I will in the future, hence the disclaimer above.

kjell are back...
February 17, 2004
Oh yeah, the return of kjell. You knows it.Get ‘I killed a pig’ or ‘Saturday morning 4:19’, or both! in avi format.
they were recorded this monday in the landing of my parents house after a few drinkies. the two songs offered were the only full or coherent songs i could salvage from over an hour of footage, and even they are pretty poor. however... rejoice! kjell have returned to us; soon the planets will align and heaven and earth will be as one, peace will reign, to the sound of kjell.
